Flowershroom

Image
Flowershroom     The premise of this project was to create a hollow 3d form that we were eventually to print out using a 3d printer. My partner and I decided to go for a more organic form that we could incorporate both our ideas in. We thought of organic in a literal and figurative sense as we created mushrooms growing out of a flower base. This was once of my designs for the prep, I was playing with stacking and rotating circles to create this pillars and just circular forms in general. This form was the one that worked best with my partners form as it had a softer feel with the circle motif.  Here are the sketches I used to explain or hash out the ideas of how we were going to approach this piece. My partner's form was like a tulip as seen on the top left so we decided to use the same idea of a flower that would hold in the forms that I created which we decided on mushrooms at that point. We didn't have a whole lot to hash out as they only had one form so we had ...

Papercraft: Dagger Style

Image
Papercraft: Dagger Style The prompt for this project was to create an object out of paper that was important or significant to us in some form. The dagger was a choice I made based off my brother and his love for a certain webtoon series so I thought it would be interesting to see how far I could push my abilities. I had many ideas, and started out with my first design, however proved to be unsuccessful as the way it unfolded was very difficult to actually build, so I restarted the design and went with something more streamlined and realistic. I revised this a few times, making the sides of the blade wider to accommodate for more tabs and a sturdier blade as my prototype was flimsy and didn't hold well. I had to make everything a bit larger including the edge pieces of the blade to make sure I could actually build it.      The feedback from the peer review was incredibly helpful to make the dagger come to life. The first comment was to make the handle smaller so that...

Dagger Prototype

Dagger Prototype Starting this project out, our goal was to create a 3D object that held significant meaning to us in some form. I had a few ideas, a teddy bear, a shoe, and a dagger. I chose the dagger because I figured it would be an interesting test of my abilities and what I could create. I started by drawing out the dagger, and modelling that, however turned to be unsuccessful and I wasn't pleased with how it came out. Then I moved on to the next type, and found this to be much too difficult of a design, forgot to save it and restarted once more anyways. I finally came to my last design, and found that when designing it in Rhino, I made it much too difficult and now know to simplify more in order to achieve a clean outcome. I will alter the design to be more simple in my final. Once I printed the pages out I tried to make sure the sizes were all the same, however even though I printed copies multiple times the side pieces I made were wrong and wouldn't fit the edges of t...

Papercraft Werk It

Image
Papercraft Research The artist I chose to research was Yulia Brodskaya, as her paper quilling work immediately struck my eye as the flow of the paper is incredibly mesmerizing. Since this research is about finding an artist who inspires you or you want to write about, she is the perfect choice as her work makes me want to create.      Yulia's work started as she decided to move away from digital means as well as traditional drawing and found her groove within her own way of paper quilling. Yulia also has always had a fondness for paper and has always enjoyed working with in in some form so being able to create with it is a great passion for her. She was originally a graphic designer, however she found more joy within creating 3D paper illustrations that passed time by easily. Starting out, she would just take large strips of heavy duty paper and glue them down, as if she was drawing. However, her process is quite time consuming as she has to measure the strip she wants to...

Digital Samples

Digital Samples I had a lot of fun experimenting using both abstract shapes as well as creating objects in my every day life or objects that popped into my head. Some I experimented more with than others, but overall was a successful project and I learned a lot on how to move in a productive workflow.  Abstract form This was my first attempt at this project and I just wanted to experiment using simple forms. Cement block I made a cement block-ish shape because on my drive home from school I saw another car run into one and thought I should commemorate that moment. Vase I was sitting in my living room and decided to see if I could make a vase, attempting to emulate a more circular form using flat planes. Abstract form Another experiment trying different techniques with shape. Headphones I received my new headphones and wanted to try making them using planar forms, tricky but learned a whole lot through my methods.  Chest Thought it would be fun to create a treasure chest...
